This is the story of a century of industry, but it is Camillo and Adriano Olivetti, father and son, who made it unlike any other. Camillo, the father, was both an industrialist and a socialist: he founded Italy’s first typewriter factory and established one of the country’s earliest workers’ welfare funds. Adriano expanded the company internationally while giving equal importance to employee welfare and community services. As sociologist Luciano Gallino wrote: “Profits were more than substantial, but they were transformed neither into excessive dividends nor into reckless financial ventures; instead, they became higher wages, outstanding services and remarkable architecture.”
Via Jervis and the surrounding area are home to the buildings that make up the UNESCO World Heritage property’s core zone. Located in the historic “Portineria del Pino”, the Visitor Centre welcomes tourists and visitors.
